Medicare Options

Most Americans are eligible for Medicare Part A at no cost and can purchase Medicare Part B by contacting their local Social Security office or Medicare. For most Americans, additional coverage to supplement Medicare Parts A and B is needed. If you require a supplement to Medicare Part A and Part B, you must decide whether to purchase a Medicare Supplement Policy (Medigap policy), or a Medicare Advantage Plan.

Medicare supplemental plans or Medigap plans are purchased directly from an insurance company with no government involvement. However, the government has standardized these plans so that the benefits are mostly the same regardless of the insurance company from which they are purchased.

Medicare Supplemental Plans cover most costs that Part A and Part B does not cover, however, they do not cover prescription drug costs. To cover prescription drug costs, you must purchase a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan. A typical Medicare Supplemental Plan plus a Part D prescription drug plan purchased through Bottom Line Health Insurance Consultants averages $200.00 per month per person. With this option, you will have little to no costs when receiving medical treatment and most prescription drug expenses are limited to co-pays.

Medicare Advantage Plans are another way to supplement your Medicare A and B plans. A Medicare Advantage Plan replaces your Original Medicare Plan and if you choose a Medicare Advantage Plan with prescription drug coverage (MAPD), you receive all of your benefits in one plan. Medicare Advantage is subsidized by the Federal government. This enables insurance companies to provide coverage at a much smaller premium as compared to Medicare Supplemental Plans.

It is critical that you talk to an agent who is certified and trained to sell these plans before deciding which option is best for you. The authorized Medicare Options Agents at Bottom Line Insurance Consultants are standing by waiting to answer all your questions. We look forward to working with you.
